Sarah Spencer Washington (1889-1953) of Atlantic City, NJ was the founder of the Apex Beauty Products Company, and a network of related salons and beauty academies. She emulated the success of Madam C.J. Walker during and after the Great Depression. This lot includes:
Photograph by the studio of William E. Woodward of New York, "Graduating Class 1941, Apex School of Beauty Culture, New York, N.Y." 10 x 18½ inches, mounted and laminated to 13 x 21-inch wooden plaque; chipped a bit on verso, otherwise minimal wear.
Pamphlet, "Use Apex Beauty Products, World's Best Beauty Preparations." 36 pages. Octavo, 9 x 6 inches, original illustrated wrappers. A combination product catalogue and beauty manual. Atlantic City, NJ, undated.
